4. Getting Started

Getting Started

When is a good time to get started?

Our major recruitment period coincides with the start of the new school year, and culminates with Rally Night, where new families come meet with the Pack and register their K - 5th grade kids.  For the 2012-2013 school year, Rally Night will be on Aug 28th starting at 6:30pm in the Murdock Cafeteria.

Of course, like most Cub Scout Packs, we go year-round.  You can become a scout at anytime. Just contact our Cubmaster or the Den Leader in your age group - or, just show up at one of our meetings if you are not able to attend Rally Night.

If you have an interest in learning more about our Pack, if you have questions, or if you are ready to get started, please click here and fill out our website form.  It only takes a minute and we will contact you shortly.

When do we meet?

Pack Meetings (when all of our scouts, 1st-5th grade, get together in the same place - with the Cubmaster) are normally held on the second Tuesday of each month, but this varies so pay close attention to the Pack Calendar.

Den Meetings (when just one age group meets - with the Den Leader) are normally held twice a month and when there are specific outings.

To verify meeting times, you can check the calendar here.

What is the Cost of Joining?

First - don't let the cost scare you off.  It's not that expensive and our Pack is able to assist if you need help.  Please see the Pack 815 Cubmaster, Alan Seal, if financial  assistance is needed. This will be kept in the strictest confidence.

Generally, there are yearly dues that are paid with a portion going to the Atlanta Area Council to cover registration, insurance, and Boy's Life Magazine Subscription, and a portion going to Pack 815 to cover Pack T-shirt, Handbook, Awards, Patches, Derby Kits, etc.

For the current Pack year, please speak to the Cub Master for the current pack dues.

Also, first time scouts will need to purchase a uniform.  The blue Cub Scout uniform is worn for the 1st - 3rd grade years, so if your child is a kindergartener the uniform will last 1 year, 1st grader, the uniform will last 3 years.  A khaki Boy Scout style uniform is worn by 4th & 5th grade Webelos Scouts, so that would need to be purchased at the start of the 4th grade year.  The cost of a full Class A uniform is approximately $80.  We are also working to stock our Pack Closet with donated uniform items that can be borrowed by those with financial difficulties (or on a first come first served basis after that).

In addition to these costs, there will be occasional activities, such as camping trips or Den activities, that have costs associated with them.  These costs are always presented well ahead of time.  Scouts have the opportunity to earn money to cover these activities with our Camp Card fundraiser in the spring.

Don't let the cost get in the way of your decision!
